Students can apply for college loan

The Ruth Gosnell Education Fund, directed by the Springfield Presbyterian Church, Sykesville, offers interest-free loans to full-time college juniors, seniors and graduate students for the 2008 academic year.
Regardless of religion, applicants will receive impartial consideration, according to a press release; repayment of the loan does not start until six months after graduation. Students can download the ''Ruth Gosnell Education Fund Loan Application-Form C" at: www.springfield-church.org or call the church office at 410-795-6152.
Help ensure that no one suffers in the cold this winter in Carroll County by volunteering with the county's Cold Weather Shelter. This program provides shelter, food, shower and laundry facilities to the homeless. Volunteer to greet and register residents upon their entrance to the shelter, assist residents with activities during the evening, including meal preparation and laundry, maintain order and security in and around the facility. It's a seasonal opportunity through March 31. Volunteers needed in shifts from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., who must be at least 18 years of age. Detailed training and orientation will be provided.
